Recently recognized with an honorable mention on Electronic Media's annual list of the 10 Most Powerful People in TV News and dubbed "the anchorman of tomorrow," Shepard Smith joined FOX News Channel (FNC) at the network's inception in 1996. Currently, he anchors FNC's signature evening newscast, "The Fox Report" (Monday-Friday 7:00-8:00 PM ET) while hosting the 2:30-4:00 PM ET portion of "Fox News Live," the network's daytime hard news programming. "The Fox Report" is the No. 1 rated newscast on cable and consistently beats the cable news competition in the 7:00 PM timeslot.
Since joining the network, Smith has most notably covered the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and the subsequent war in Afghanistan, as well as the Columbine school shootings and President Clinton's impeachment trial. He also served as a witness to the execution of convicted Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh in June 2001.
Smith began his first stint at FNC as a New York-based general assignment reporter. He was later promoted to senior correspondent and reported on numerous breaking news stories, including the 1997 stand-off between the United Nations and Iraq, Princess Diana's funeral and the O.J. Simpson civil trial.
Before joining FNC, Smith was a FOX News Edge correspondent based in Los Angeles, where he covered a wide range of stories for the FOX affiliate news service. Prior to FOX News Edge, Smith served as a news reporter for the Twentieth Television syndicated program "A Current Affair."
