Paula Abdul Judge on American Idol
Rarely in the history of entertainment has there been an artist as recognized, awarded and celebrated, both in front of the camera and behind the camera, as is Paula Abdul. We can now also add designer to her list of accomplishments. She recently emerged into the fashion world with her new jewelry and clothing collections.Abdul has designed a new jewelry collection called "Innergy," consisting of hand-made gold and silver pendants and bracelets inspired by the hard work and dedication of the AMERICAN IDOL contestants. Abdul has also designed a line of cheerleading attire and dancewear for young girls and teenagers called "Skirtz," inspired by her own dance and cheer career. Abdulis music career encompasses worldwide album sales exceeding 30 million records, two No. 1 albums, six No. 1 singles, a Grammy Award, seven MTV Awards, two Emmy Awards, two Peopleis Choice Awards and two Kids' Choice Awards. She has also been honored with her very own star on Hollywood Boulevard and inducted into Nickelodeonis Kidsi Choice Hall of Fame. Currently, Abdul is receiving acclaim as "the heart and soul" of American Idol. Contestants and viewers alike praise her positive feedback and nurturing of the hopeful young singers. Abdul has even designed inspirational good-luck jewelry for the American Idol contestants, which they can occasionally be seen grasping for strength and inspiration during more stressful times on the popular high-stakes show. Behind the camera, Abdul is known as one of the most gifted and recognized choreographers in film, television, video, stage and live tours. Her celebrated work in choreography includes Emmy-winning contributions to "The Tracey Ullman Show," Abdulis own performance on the "American Music Awards" and her choreography for the Academy Awards, for which she earned an Emmy Award nomination. Other triumphs include her award-winning work with Janet Jackson, which garnered two MTV Video Awards; and working with such musical legends as Aretha Franklin, George Michael, Luther Vandross, INXS, Heart and Prince. Abdul's favorite memory is dancing alongside her idol, Gene Kelly, in the Diet Coke commercial that was recently inducted into the Coca-Cola Hall of Fame Museum as one of that company's top commercial campaigns. Abdul's choreography contributions in feature films include the Academy Award-winning "American Beauty," working with Cuba Gooding, Jr. on his Academy Award-winning performance in "Jerry McGuire," and transforming Val Kilmer into Jim Morrison in Oliver Stoneis "The Doors." Abdul also continues to honor her roots by running dance and cheerleading camps, competitions and scholarship programs throughout the country, and has never forgotten her first break as a Los Angeles Laker Girl.
