CHILDREN'S VACCINATIONS
West Virginia health agency asks parents to get kids vaccinated before school begins

CHARLESTON, W.Va.

State health officials are asking parents to check their children's vaccine requirements before school begins.

Kindergarten through 12th-grade students who will enter a West Virginia school for the first time must have the DTaP, polio, MMR, chickenpox and hepatitis B vaccines.

All seventh-graders and 12th-graders are required to show proof that they've had a dose of Tdap vaccine. Twelfth-graders also must show proof that they've had a second dose of the meningitis vaccine, if they received the first dose before their 16th birthday.

Bureau for Public Health commissioner Dr. Letitia Tierney says in a news release that now is a good time for parents to make sure their children have the required immunizations.
