Groundbreaking held for new community garden in Parkersburg set to be available for fall crops

PARKERSBURG, W.Va.

Parkersburg residents will soon have a multi-purpose community garden.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday at Point Park Marketplace.

The garden will include 49 raised-bed plots, a fountain and a greenhouse to be used for educational projects.

Officials say the purpose of the project is to provide a park-like atmosphere for people to work together, build community bonds, provide educational opportunities and grow fresh produce.

Organizers say the garden will be available for use for fall crops later this year.
