FATAL FALL
Parkersburg man dies after through ceiling of church gymnasium

Reported by: Associated Press
Thursday, July 3, 2014 9:15 AM EDT
PARKERSBURG, W.Va.

Police say a Parkersburg man was doing maintenance work when he fell through the ceiling of a church gymnasium and died.

Parkersburg Police Chief Joe Martin tells the Parkersburg News and Sentinel that 79-year-old Bernard R. Williams was changing the filter on a heating and cooling system when he fell. A portion of the drywall ceiling broke and Williams fell about 20 feet to 25 feet to the floor.

The accident occurred Tuesday evening at South Parkersburg Baptist Church's gymnasium.

The church's custodian found Williams' body and called 911.

The church says Williams was a member of its Property Team.
