Fayette County couple charged with child neglect in deaths of 2 infants

Reported by: Associated Press

A Fayette County couple faces neglect charges stemming from the deaths of two infant children.

Sheriff Steve Kessler says 27-year-old Kyle Ralph Penson and 24-year-old Ashley Nicole Penson turned themselves in Wednesday morning. Both are charged with child neglect resulting in death.

Kessler says in a news release that an investigation determined both infants apparently died due to parental overlay.

Overlay is unintentional smothering resulting from a person rolling onto a child while sleeping with them.

Deputies responding to a 911 call on March 11 found both infants unconscious and not breathing at the family's mobile home in Hilltop. They performed CPR until an emergency crew arrived. The children were pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Kessler says a third child in the home was in good health.
