WATER RESCUE
Jefferson County swift water rescue team disbands due to lack of participation

Reported by: Associated Press
Sunday, June 8, 2014 2:19 PM EDT
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va.

Jefferson County's swift water rescue team has disbanded because of a lack of participation.

Independent Fire Company Chief Donnie Lanham tells The Journal that his department in Ranson housed and funded the team. It was made up of firefighters and emergency medical technicians from other fire companies in the county.

Lanham says the team would respond whenever someone was stranded or in distress in water.

He says interest in participating with the team has fallen. There are now only three members.

Lanham says a mutual aid agreement has been made with first responders in Washington County, Maryland, until a new water rescue team is created.
