WHEELING, W.Va.

Marshall County Sheriff Kevin Cecil says five two-member interdiction teams have been formed to combat drug trafficking.

Cecil and other leaders of the Marshall County Drug Task Force announced the initiative Wednesday. The teams will target major roadways, hotels and neighborhoods where drug activity is suspected.

The sheriff has allocated several vehicles, a K-9 unit, a license plate reader and overtime funding to support the program.

Task force leaders also disclosed the results of last year's anti-drug efforts. Investigations by the task force in 2013 resulted in 277 felony charges against 64 people. About $578,000 in assets were seized or forfeited.
