Fall turkey kills down 20 percent in West Virginia

The Division of Natural Resources says West Virginia hunters bagged 1,013 wild turkeys last fall, down 20 percent from the previous year.
Taylor says wild turkey hunting is heavily influenced by annual reproduction, food supply and hunter participation. Heavy rains in June and July resulted in lower survival rates of young birds.
Top counties for 2013 were Preston, with a take of 77, Monroe with 71, Randolph with 69, Greenbrier with 58 and Pocahontas with 55.
