SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va.
To address more than $1 billion in transportation infrastructure needs, a state panel says lawmakers need to consider revenue sources such as higher fuel taxes to more reliance on counties to pay for highways and bridges.
The panel toured the state seeking input on infrastructure needs. Finalized by month's end, its report outlines more than $1 billion worth of improvements and new road work.
West Virginia Transportation Secretary Paul Mattox Jr. said he would welcome additional money from a fund proposed by Senate President Jeff Kessler.
It would set aside a portion of the severance tax paid by the growing natural gas industry.
