West Virginia is joining 40 other states and territories calling for tamper-resistant versions of generic prescription pain relievers.
The letter asks the federal agency to require manufacturers to develop tamper-resistant versions of their products.
In their letter, the attorneys general say requiring abuse-deterrent pain killing prescription drugs is a reasonable move in the fight against prescription drug abuse.
The group thanked the FDA for recent efforts to require abuse-deterrent formulations for brand-name prescription pain relievers, but urged the agency to ensure that generic opioids have abuse-deterrent properties.
