CSX Corp. has signed labor agreements covering some 215 railroad workers at its Huntington repair shops, guaranteeing at least four years of employment and preventing outsourcing.
The contracts were signed last week with the Transportation Communications Union, the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, and the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers.
CSX Vice President Ken Mason says it's an innovative, "win-win" contract that provides incentives for workers to be flexible and lets CSX improve quality, production and efficiency.
Machinists union District 19 President Jeff Doerr says unions can compete with outside contractors even at higher rates of pay and with better benefits.
