Liquor violations are the most frequent campus crime at Fairmont State University.
There were 48 liquor law violations in 2012 resulting in referrals for disciplinary action, 60 violations in 2011 and 38 violations in 2010.
Drug law violations resulting in referrals for disciplinary action rose from one in 2010 to 54 in 2012. That's the biggest increase among reported campus crimes.
Fairmont State deputy police chief Matt Swain tells The Times-West Virginian that the increase in reported drug violations is due to stricter enforcement. Violators receive a citation and a fine through a new campus judicial referral program. But the citations aren't criminal.
