Ohio's attorney general says a theft and receiving stolen property indictment issued by a grand jury has nothing to do with the rape case the panel is investigating.
Attorney General Mike DeWine says the panel charged Heather Rhinaman after uncovering evidence of a crime.
DeWine said Wednesday that the 20-year-old Rhinaman is accused of stealing equipment from the Steubenville city schools and selling it.
DeWine says it's not uncommon for grand juries investigating one set of allegations to come across unrelated crimes.
Rhinaman's father, William Rhinaman, is the Steubenville schools' technology director. He has pleaded not guilty to tampering with evidence and other charges related to the rape case.
