An official in the West Virginia governor's office says state services were not affected by the federal government shutdown.
The governor's deputy chief of staff told lawmakers in a committee meeting on Monday that nobody had to lose their job during the shutdown and that state programs were not affected by it. About 5,100 state employees have their jobs entirely funded by the federal government.
Jason Pizatella says state agencies planned for the shutdown, but there would have been a significant impact if it lasted more than a month.
He says the governor's office is drafting legislation that could provide options if there's a longer shutdown in the future.
