SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va.
Kanawha County officials have lifted a shelter in place that was issued following a chemical leak at a plant in South Charleston.
The county issued a shelter in place around 9:30 a.m. for an area in South Charleston west of the Mound, Spring Hill and Dunbar. The shelter in place was lifted about 40 minutes later.
Clearon did not immediately return a telephone message.
Plant manager Scott Johnson tells media outlets the plant had been idle for the past month for routine maintenance.
Johnson says some granular bleach was mistakenly left inside part of the production process and started to react by giving off heat and fumes.
