MEXICO-MISSING MOTORCYCLIST
Search for missing US motorcyclist leads authorities to body found near Mexican coast

Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Sunday, July 13, 2014 1:58 PM EDT
MEXICO CITY

U.S. authorities have traveled to southwestern Mexico to help determine whether a body found there is that of a New York man who vanished while riding his motorcycle to Brazil for the World Cup.

U.S. Embassy spokesman Mark Johnson said Sunday both governments were working together to identify the remains, which police found last week along a road north of the resort area of Ixtapa-Zihuatenejo.

The attorney general's office in Guerrero state says authorities also found a motorcycle but had yet to confirm whether it was the same one belonging Harry Devert.

The 32-year-old New Yorker was last heard from on Jan. 25 when he said he was leaving the state of Michoacan to head for Zihuatenejo. That path would have taken Devert through an area troubled by drug-related violence.
