Blasts, torching of vehicles mark start of opposition strike in Bangladesh
Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Sunday, November 3, 2013 10:58 PM EST
Opposition activists have exploded homemade bombs and set fire to at least 10 vehicles in Bangladesh's capital as the opposition began enforcing a general strike to demand that the government quit so upcoming elections can be held under a caretaker government.
The 60-hour strike that began on Monday morning came after at least 16 people died last week in similar strike.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants to hold the elections under an all-party caretaker government, but the opposition says they want a government with people from outside political parties.
