Guinea opposition pulls out of UN-mediated talks as tension over legislative vote rises

Guinea's opposition has pulled out of political talks mediated by a United Nations special envoy in the latest sign of discontent with the country's recent legislative elections.
The parties had already withdrawn their representatives from Guinea's electoral commission and demanded that results from the hotly contested Sept. 28 vote be thrown out because of alleged fraud.
The vote was intended to complete Guinea's transition to democratic rule following the country's first democratic presidential election in 2010, won by Alpha Conde.
However, the vote was delayed by nearly two years because of disputes over how it would be carried out, and multiple pre-election protests turned violent.
