SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic
U.N. officials say an "exhaustive study" will be undertaken to determine whether a Dominican Republic court decision to strip citizenship from children of Haitian migrants violates international treaties.
U.N. resident commissioner Lorenzo Jimenez told reporters in the Dominican Republic on Monday that U.N. agencies will present their findings in a couple of weeks. He said the court decision "greatly concerns" the United Nations.
Dominican officials have promised to create a path to legal residency for those whose birth certificates are voided, but have provided no details how this might work.
