BROWNS-MANZIEL MEDIA
Browns not buckling to pressure, will bar national media from Johnny Manziel's first practice

Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Thursday, May 15, 2014 9:33 PM EDT
CLEVELAND

The Browns are sticking with plans to ban national media from rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel's first appearance on the field.

The team is limiting access to the club's rookie minicamp this weekend to local reporters and photographers. The Browns turned down several requests from national outlets, some of which were not pleased with being denied.

Browns spokesman Zak Gilbert said the Browns wanted to give "media who cover us on a daily basis" access to this year's draft class, which is led by Manziel, Texas A&M's immensely popular QB.

While the local media will be allowed inside to see the practice, only the first 15 minutes of Saturday's workout will be open for viewing. Sunday's practice will be closed.

The Browns are trying to contain the hype around Manziel, who will compete with Brian Hoyer for the starting job.
