Likely favorite California Chrome completes final workout leading to Kentucky Derby

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif.


California Chrome put in his final work in preparation for next weekend's Kentucky Derby, where he's expected to be the early favorite.

With regular rider Victor Espinoza aboard, the Santa Anita Derby winner worked a half-mile in 48.20 seconds on Saturday at Los Alamitos, where the colt is based. He will travel to Louisville on Monday. The Kentucky Derby is May 3.

Trainer Art Sherman says he is pleased with the workout and everything is in good order with California Chrome.

The colt has won his last four starts by a combined 24ΒΌ lengths.
