Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues December 20, 2013
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
Studio: Paramount Pictures
Rating: PG-13 for crude and sexual content, drug use, language and comic violence.

Following his meteoric rise to fame in San Diego, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) was poised for a fall.

As "Anchorman 2" begins, Burgundy and his now-wife Veronica Corningston (Christina Applegate) are in New York. They are co-anchoring the news when Veronica gets a big break. She's promoted to network anchor. But things don't go as well for Ron, who is fired by his legendary news boss Mack Tannen (Harrison Ford).

Crushed, Burgunday's marriage falls apart. He goes back to the west coast, but an announcing job at Sea World doesn't last very well. He is at the end of his rope when he gets an amazing offer for a brand new venture that could be his ticket back to the top.

Ron accepts a job at a brand new 24-hour cable news network. He quickly reassembles his old news team and together they head for New York. But Burgundy and his friends are stuck in the channel's 2 a.m. graveyard time slot, so they brainstorm for ways to get bigger ratings. And that is how Ron Burgundy accidentally invents the modern news coverage of today.

The original "Anchorman" is a classic, filled with memorable one-liners and quotes. The sequel isn't quite that good, but it's still a very funny movie.

Ferrell is fully committed to the madness that is Burgundy and his sidekicks, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner all deliver plenty of laughs. Carell''s not-too-bright weatherman Brick even falls in love with an equally hapless Kristen Wiig.

"Anchorman 2" is over the top silly but it also manages a few pointy pokes at the news business, and what it has become since the creation of 24-hour news networks. I could have done without a couple of the subplots in exchange for a bit tighter story but the jokes and ridiculous set pieces manage to save the day.

If you liked the original adventure, you'll enjoy this new chapter.

On my rating scale, "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" earns a TRIPLE.
