The Bounty Hunter March 19, 2010
The Bounty Hunter
Studio: Sony Pictures
Rating: PG-13 for sexual content including suggestive comments, language and some violence.

Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler headline the latest romantic comedy to hit theaters.

She plays investigative reporter Nicole Hurley, who gets into trouble while looking into the cover-up of a murder.

He is her ex-husband, a down-on-his-luck former police officer turned bounty hunter named Milo Boyd.

Although they have gone their separate ways fate brings them back together.

It seems that Nicole has run into a bit of trouble. But while working on her story she misses a court date.

The judge wants to throw her in jail and that puts Milo on her trail.

Milo catches up with Nicole and soon sets about taking her to the authorities. But she has a mystery to unravel, and will do just about anything to stay on the trail.

I must be a softie for these types of movies because I did find some things to like about "The Bounty Hunter."

Butler and Aniston are good performers and they're joined by several talented supporting actors including a wonderful Christine Baranski who plays Nicole's mom.

And unlike most other romantic comedies this one has a healthy dose of action as Milo and Nicole dig deeper into a conspiracy the bad guys desperately want to keep under cover.

But there are problems, the biggest being I just didn't sympathize with the lead characters.

Neither one of them is particularly likeable. In fact, I found myself hoping that Milo and Nicole would get back together...only because they kind of deserve each other.

He comes across as a boozy degenerate while she is whiny manipulative. Not exactly the ingredients for everlasting love.

If you are a fan of Aniston and Butler you'll probably be satisfied, but if you're not this movie probably isn't your cup of tea.

On my rating scale, "The Bounty Hunter" earns a DOUBLE.
