Should insurance companies be allowed to drop an insurance policy with a 30-45 day notice?

A SAMPLING OF YOUR RESPONSES:

No the state as well as the people and the insurance companys would loose more tha what they think they are loseing now.
E Thorn, Parkersburg

Insurance Companies are in business to make money. They are not out there to help the population. There has to be something wrong when a driver with no accidents pays outragous premiums. How can a driver's insurance go up when they don't use it! If you pay your premium and do not use your policy, you're still guaranteed a rate increase. Something has to be done about all of these frivilous lawsuits and the lawyers that bring them! Lawsuits raise rates in all areas of the insurance industry. I don't think insurance companies should not be allowed to cancel a person until they can prove they filed a fraudulent claim; but also I think the lawyers who represent these people should also be held accountable! The legislature should impose penalties for frivilous lawsuits on both the individual and the lawyer. We all know that this will never happen!
Mark Fulks, Charleston

Where is WVa going to we are one of the poorest statesad everything is so hgh here its no wonder people are moving out and then peole with powerwants to change everything to make it worse.
Anita Stewart, Clendenin

These insurance companies have taken their costs up over 200% since the Twin Tower's incident. We the taxpayers, insurees should not have to pay for the terror in September. But we are and no one not even our President, Senate or State Representatives are doing any thing about these outrageous charges from the insurance companies. They have too much leeway now.
Sharon Jordan, Detroit

I had Erie Insurance Company for my Insurance company for the last 4 years, the way I had my policy set up was to be billed 9 months and off 3 months, Erie never sent me any type of insurance cancellation notice, or certified letter telling me that my insurance was dropped. I went wondering after these months wondering why I had not recived any bill. I called my agent and they had told me that my policy had been dropped. I think that Insurance companies should send a letter of certified mail letting you know of your policy being cancelled also the 30 to 45 day notice... Thanks,
Marcus Allison, Charleston

No! I do not think an insurance company should be allowed to drop (cancel) any policy owner at the insurance company's convenience** think about it, have you ever seen an insurance agent living in poverty?
BJ, Cross Lanes

We need more insurance regulation not less. Already in WV insurance companies can pretty much do what/charge what they want. Why give them more and kill the citizens financially ?
Nancy Tabit, S. Charleson

Does this mean that if an insurer finds out from a doctor that you are very ill, they can cancel you? I thought that was what insurance was for, to protect you when you need them. From what I understand the insurance companys charge you a premium to remain profitable, not charge you a premium to tell you they dont want to help you. If this state allows insurance companies to do this, then the state should have their own insurance to cover you when the insurance company you have paid premiums to for years decides to drop you.
Kevin D Gillenwater, Teays Valley

Tort reform, tort reform, tort reform!
Vicki Church, Alloy

No. Once obtained, some policies are impossible to buy again due to age, illness, or other individual conditions. 30-45 days is not enough time to obtain a new policy and have it be in effect by the time the old policy is discontinued. If dropping an Auto policy, they ought to be req'd to give a specified reason, 90 day notice & provide quotes for like coverage from 3 competitors who would appreciate the business!
Beth Lyons, Nitro

Well it seems that not only dos old Bob like other mens wives but he sleeping whit the insurance co. too may be one day he wake up
Allen Ray, Charleston

I work at an Insurance Office and i think its not right. People get non-renewed every day and they dont have any other place to go sometimes. People will be moving out of this state for cheaper insurance meaning the state will lose money. Thats what they have to look at...The states profits.
Aime Lea DeWees, Kenna

This is a very lucrative business. Insurance companies make $$$BILLIONS$$$ off of policy holders, and one of the biggest problems is that the money leaves WV, and the majority of it is never spent IN WV to HELP WV businesses or it's people, which have to have the insurance to operate or exist. Insurance companies are spreading their wealth around to our lawmakers too freely, and something has to be done to stop these payoffs. Insurance companies should not have the right to dictate some of their unrealistic, and most of the time, devasting policy procedures that ultimately end up causing policy holders to suffer while the insurance companies reap 'HUGE' profits. Gov. Wise needs to put his foot down, do something now and maybe run for Governor again.
Wayne, Charleston

Because of the insurance score report that insurance cmopanies contribute to I was unable to switch my auto insurance. State Farm had placed two cracked windshields I had replacedand I had my car towed once due to mechanical problems on this insurance score report. I had 3 claims in a five year period that totalled less than $500 and I was unable to switch insurance because I was considered a high risk because of these claims. Those claims had nothing to do with my ability to drive a car. I have not had an accident for 10 years. I don't think this is fair. Insurance companies should not be allowed to place stuff like that on your insurance score report-that having nothing to do with your ability to drive or if its not really an accident. I would really be in a mess if I was dropped because I had a claim. Insurance companies will use this to make more money not help the claimants.
Vicky Stevens, Charleston

Insurance Companies in West Virginia have free reign here as it is. You have to have car insurance to drive a car so you pay these high prices, they tell you there rates will go down but I have yet to see that happen.
M. Ballard, Rand

We need insurance reform badly in this state. Let these insurance companies move out of the state and pick the pockets of other people. They(the insurance companys) are verry selective on who they write a policy for. Honest people that need insurance cannot get it,or afford it.
Paul Starbird, Dunlow wv.

Because insurance is mandatory, it should also be mandatory to provide policies at reasonable cost to whoever needs them.
Larry, Morris Plains

My home and auto insurance has gone up dramatically the last 2 years. Thanks to WV! If ins. companies are allowed to drop us for no reason - they will -- and then we undoubtedly will have to find another company (or return to the old one) for a higher fee. This would also eliminate the guarenteed insurability of long-time, faithful customers! Help out the people for a change!! Insurance is such a necessary evil now.
Ed Harkless, Ona

But the insurance companies are gonna do what they want. I had a policy with a company for 24 years and was late one day with my payment and they cancelled my policy. I belive the Question here should have been how much the insurance company is gonna PROFIT not weather or not they can remain profitable. Its time we stand up and face the insurance companies and cancel them instead of them canceling us. If the whole United States did this we would see rates coming down and then they would be happy to write policies and not worry about canceling them in 30 to 45 days because they would need us then. So NO the Insurance should not be allowed to do this.
Donna, St Albans

People need to keep up with their own finances its not the insurances place to beg for money when these people know its due.
Sherry Taylor, South Charleston
