A SAMPLING OF YOUR RESPONSES:

Charter service sucks and is too expensive. Digital service and cable modem are both unreliable.
Misty, South Charleston
In addition to TV reception, I access the Internet via cable. The service is fast and dependable. Satellite can't compete in this area, so I will stick with my cable connection.
Lew Brewer, Charleston
It's very appealing with the local channels being added considering Charter Communications raised the rate for our package choice for the second time in six months.
Jaime Prince, Madison
I alreay have a satellite service will I be able to receive your channel.I live in the rt 61 area 5 miles down toward montgomery area.be nice to get local channels cable around here sucks
gary keith skaggs, fayetteville
I have a dish & want my local channels on my dish. I sure hope your going to put your signal on there, cause theres alot of people who can't recieve local channels in this valley unless your on cable. I don't like cable.
Don Morgan, Cross Lanes
Depends on the price.
John, Albany, OH
We have no fast internet access, if something doesn't come along soon I'll probably switch from cable.
WDM, Camden on Gauley
Absolutely...we can not get over the air signals and unable to get cable in Sissonville, we have used a Dish since 1986. We already subscribe to Dish Network and would love to have Local TV for the first time.
Becky Burdett, Sissonville
Switched from Adelphia cable to Dish Network on 10-17-03. 4 times the channels for the same price.
R Miller, Athens
I have DishNetwork, I been waiting for this to happen for almost 2 years. I am glad it will be soon!
Michael Lawrence, Harts
Charter has went up in price and service and reception has went down hill.
John Shue, Cross Lanes
Charter Cable is not keeping the faith with its coustomers in giving good service and reasonable rates. Competition may very well be the best thing that has happened to Charter.
W W Moore, Charleston
I've had Directv and digital cable. Digital cable is a gimmic. Not every channel on DIGITAL cable is digital. It's such a big joke. What's worse is that the biggest chunk of their customers don't realize how their getting ripped. I'll gladly and I stress GLADLY pay for satellite to get away from cable.
B Jones, Charleston
Not changing as I have cable internet service as well as my regular cable.
Christine Stephens, Cabin Creek
I currently have direct TV and have been unable to get ABC. I am able to get NBC, FOX, and CBS. I look forward to watching local channels and reaquainted with local shows and news
Steve Brady, Alum Creek
cable went of sat night when the ballbame was on
john butler, ridgeview
Satellite services are for TVs. Because satellites connect electricity. Some satellites are for VCRs.
Justyn, Kermit
Cable prices are too high! See Ya cable company.
Tom Thompson, Barboursville
Satellite TV is a joke. they do not offer any service and when they do the cost is too much, at least when i have a problem with my cable they are there to fix it for me. The channel lineup they offer is just like cables except they add programs that nobody wants to see like 20 home shopping channels they tell you that you have 50 channels to watch when actually you only get 30 and thats the same as cables expanded service and its only $30.00.
jerry thomas, charleston
I switched to DTV as soon as I heard that local stations would absolutely be offered in Charleston. It is roughly the same service that Charter Cable offers (except a few more stations, and a little less money), but not all of us are lucky enough to be in an area that can get Charter. Those of us who can only get Thompson, or another second rate cable company because of the monopoly rules that apply to cable in this area would be crazy not to get satellite service.
Linda, Cross Lanes
Satellite will not work in my area.
Vicky, Charleston
We have nesbe cable and it is terrible. There is not enough foot ball or base ball on cable.
Pat Paynter, Cyclone
The cost of satelite service is much cheaper than cable i switched over to a dish a year ago.I am glad they are adding local channels to directv shure have missed you guys.
Mark Humphreys, Dunbar
I already have switched because my local cable tv co Colane Inc raised the price and doesnt offer enough channels to pick from.
Connie May, Baisden
Current directv customer. Will drop cable for local channels
Daniel Webb, Gordon
Charter communications is getting really expensive and customer service is getting worse. I plan to get direst tv very soon.
Patricia Simmons, Charleston
I would if I could. You get more channels for the money.I live in an area where it wouldn't be wise.
Lynn Sigmon, Chaeleston
I already have directv and it is far better than any cable service I have ever had. I think that with local stations you are really FINALLY going to see some competition with the cable industry.
Andrea Sharps, Smithville
I already have directv an think it is good that the cable com. will have some competition now.
Wayne Moore, Ironton, Ohio
I am very happy with the quality and quanity of service provided by Directv. Adding local stations only enhance that. Last winter when the ice storm took out power and cable lines I just fired up my generator and had power and quality TV.
Bill Wallace, Point Pleasant
I think it's a shame the way Charter Communications has a monoply on the cable business. I got a package deal with them when I decided to use charter.net as my internet connection. Now when I want to drop the HBO & MAX movies they tell me my bill will be higher. When the small satalite dishes add local stations, I will drop Charter TV and Internet and will pay about half as much as I am paying now for the same service.
Sharon Holbrook, Pratt
Yes, I like that, because it is much cheaper than regular cable.
Marva L. Dowdin, South Charleston
I certainly do! once the local channels are added I will quickly switch to a satellite service. I think that charter communication is ripping the area residents off. $50.00 plus for just the expanded basic is ridiculous! I'm switching!
Mark Fulks, Charleston
Already switched to DirecTV with cable for local until available on the satellite! Better quality, more channels, better service, and CHEAPER!
Mike Tipton, Charleston
We was with Aldephia 5 years, Service was very pooor, Have had Dish net work for a year now soon as you come on line we wiii get it
Robert Bowyer, Sutton
Satellite TV hires outside independant contractors to install the dish. When you have a problem with the installer, the Satellite company pleads no responsibility and will not make the situation right. The installer who hooked up my system did not mount the dish securely. There were only two bolts making contact with wood and the others where only in a aluminum soffet material with no reinforcement. The dish was not grounded and they used regular cable wire since they did not ground the system. I had no idea all this was not accomplished until another dish was installed for homeschool purposes. I was left in limbo when I tried to have this fixed so I switched to cable. At least they take some responsiblity for their equipment. I did safe a few bucks with satellite and I miss the movies on demand the most. When you paid for a movie you could watch it all day long not just once. When you are home you do get interupted with the telephone or the door bell. If you missed something, you could see it again and catch what you missed unlike the cable offering here in the area. I really look forward to Charter offering Movies on demand.
John, South Charleston
Already a sat customer and love the service! Will get locals once they are available and was glad that you gave me a voucher/pass to get ABC from the NY area until locals were available. If Iwas a cable customer, I would seriously consider switching. However, I prefer digital here in Louisa and thus sat service was the only option at the time I moved to Louisa from Huntington in 2000. Thanks for the question. Hope you have a good response to the
Paul Cpnnor, Louisa KY
Its still sloppy signal and subject to weather / climate conditions.
BM, Hurricane
It's about time!
Noel H. Eyster, Evans
I am already a subscriber to DirecTV so I would be really glad to see a West Virginia channel carried.
William McCormick, Weston
Charter`s rate are way to much and most of the time you can`t even watch the channels you pay extra for.
Sonya Perry Pitzer, St.Albans
Satilite TV works good only if it is clear. Dish TV is a fair weather runner, from my experieance of someone else's dish. A BIG storm, no TV. I woulden't have it if you gave it to me.
John, Charleston
I think it's great since in my area all we have is Thompson Cable, which sucks as everyone knows.
Peter Jackson, Sissonville
Why not I was a dish network customer before they decided to add our local chanels. It is outrageous what you pay for cabel, with Dish Network I get many more channels with loads more variety, and I was able to pick up my local channels with an antenna.
Steph, Madison
I have dishnetwork right now and also pay for cable so that i can get the local news I cant wait for dish to get local channels that will be one less bill i have to pay i will cut the cable off I just cant wait im so glad there finally doing this.
Karen Boggs, Bigotter WV Clay county
I already have dishnetwork and basic cable. I plan to throw that cable out so fast it will make your head swim.
Robert Owens, Fedscreek
I am tired of the prices of Bright House. I would rather pay a dish company the same and get alot more for my money.
Teresa Johnston, Tampa
With the price of the charter network basic service anyone would be crazy not to consider the other options. Most of these have packages that do not require you to purches the equiptment. You get more channels (around 115) and the cost it cheaper then with Charters Digital Package!!! Charter really needs to get with the program!!!
J.D. Barrett, Charleston
If cable rates go up any more, I will go to one of the satellite services.
W.R. Gilbert, Racine
because I will have better reception
Lisa Sloan, Hurricane
I have been with Directv for 3yrs. and plan to stay with them. I have been waiting for them to get the Chas.-Hunt. TV market channels. I pay less for all that I have now than I would, if I had cable. I go to your web pg. to get the news and weather.
Mary D. Williams, Dunbar
I now have a c-band dish, with many stations I did receive now going to the smaller dish. I can not receive local programing without the use of an antenna booster.I don't like the idea of paying for the local stations but I will.
Bill King, Letart
I already HAVE DirecTv. Cable is UNAVAILABLE where I live, so it's either satellite or NOTHING. I currently have the East & West Coast feeds of all the networks, but I am looking forward to having my local channels. I have missed getting the local news and I look forward to having them again.
Bob Halstead, Clothier
If I could ever find out for certain that any satellite company would offer local channels so I could get local news, I would drop my Pikeville, Ky., cable company -- Telemedia -- in a heartbeat. My cable service is the worst I've ever seen and nothing is being done to improve it. The only reason -- ONLY REASON -- I have not already bought a satellite system for two televisions is I could not get local news channels with local weather and so forth. If what you say is correct, I will soon leave Telemedia in the dark!
Charles Ferguson, Pikeville, Ky.
I am already using Dish Network due to the continuous rising cost of cable in our area (Fayette County). I am able to access NBC and CBS out of Atlanta, Georgia. NBC and CBS were nice enough to grant me a waiver. My PBS is the national PBS and not Grandview. However, because I live so close to an ABC affliate (WOAY - Oak Hill) ABC will hot issue me a waiver for another ABC station. Anyone that has lived with WOAY knows what poor progaming they have and because of the poor system that WOAY has, I am not able to access it, even with an antenna, but try telling that to ABC! Therefore, I have been without an ABC station since March. If it is true that you may be jumping on board, I would welcome having you back in my home. Until that time, I will continue without ABC. The only reason I ran across this poll, was because I was looking for high school football scores.
Anita McClung, Fayetteville
It's about time West Virginia step up to the plate of technology ! I'll buy a dish !!!!
Pamela Hunt, Williamson
As bad as the cable is in Sissonville. Can't wait!
Danny & Angie Milam, Sissonville
More channels for less money
Jodi Cope, Elkview
We are one of those families that truly have too many TV's for the dish. The maximum number of TV's that can currently be connected are 4, but we currently have 6 TV sets... for a family of four.
Glenn Koster, St. John, KS
I use to live in Buckhannon where you could get cable hook up,but now I live in Rock Cave which is about 17 miles out of town, cable is not availible here,so I had no choice but to obtain satalite, there is pro's and con't to both, but if I had my choice I would choose cable, the reception is better, you don't seem to lose it when a cloud goes over, you are don't as resposible for up keep as you are for breakdown, and your basics are pretty much all included not so we satalite, they can nickle and dime you to death for every regu;ar channel you get.
Pam, Rock Cave
Not only do I plan to switch, I did switch over 2 months ago in anticipation of getting local channels and would have switched without the enticement of local channels. Cable companies in general and our local one in particular have been unresponsive to the needs of their viewers for years and been able to do so by unfettered mini-monopoly access granted by local government dimwits who don't have accountability put into the contracts they sign which gives the cable companies no incentive to try to genuinely please their local customers. We were recently told that we were going to have our prices raised but they were going to give us more channels. Sounds good until you see what useless junk channels they're adding. The kicker is that they took a couple of the channels that are very popular and moved them to another package; so to get the channels that I originally subscribed for at $34.95 in 1999 I would now have to pay nearly $60. Our basic service raised $15 in a little over 3 years and to get the programs we originally subscribed to cable for it would have nearly doubled in the same time. Our local cable company, Adelphia, won't even publish their phone number in the phone book. And they can run all the anti-DirectTV commercials they want, but our reception has been better even in storms than it ever was with cable and its a delight to deal with DirecTV and its representatives who are always courteous and attentive.
Leigh Scaggs, Flatwoods, Kentucky
Being in an area where the local channel signals are very weak (yet not weak enough to obtain a waiver) I am very excited to hear this!
John Lafferty, Mud River
I couldn't be happier that DirecTV is adding local channels to it's packaging. I have been unhappy with Charter's customer service for years.
Josh Marshall, Charleston
I think it is wonderful that we will soon be able to get the local channels from the dish providers. Charter's customer service is awful and so now they will finally see that if you don't treat your customers right someone else will!
Carrie, Charleston
I am already a directv subscriber. I can tell you from experience that some of these cable companies can't come close to the satellite companies; especially in rural area where people pay $40.00 or more a month for 30 channels.
Ryan McCormick, Sissonville
Charter's prices are to high and are going to go up soon. I can receive the same package for a cheaper price.
James Johnson, Julian
We are a customer of dish network and are very excited about local tv being available. Thanks
Sally Hodges, Charleston
Our local reception is very poor and fuzzy. Many days, we can't get a picture clear enough to watch at all. We plan to go to satellite services for local channel reception as soon as we can get it!
GT, Rutland
I am so happy, i have direct tv, but i have to go online to see the local weather and news!
lisa hypes, drennen
About time a company gave Charter a bit of competition!
Denice, Charleston
Better services, better package, less interruption. Immediate customer service.
Steven Berryman, Friendly
Just did! Loving it!
Karen Davis, Whitesville
The picture and sound quality is excellent on Directv.
Guy Martin, Saint Albans
I already have dish network. I love it. I wouldn't want to go back to cable tv. I miss some of the local channels but not enough to go back to cable. I would like them added on to our channels sometime.
Connie Sluss, Bluefield, VA
I already have directv and am very happy they are finally picking up our networks.I am tired of only having New York or California news.
kelli hays, elkview
I'm tired of paying my cable company (Adelphia out of Red House) for poor picture quality channels. That is why I have already cancelled my service with them and am now using a local antenna until the satellite companies start providing our local channels
Kevin, Winfield
We switched 2 to 3 years ago. I am anxiously awaiting the return of local television to my house.
Leslie Marion, Nitro
Can not receive channels on a regular antenna and the cable around here is not reliable
Paul King II, Charleston
I was having trouble with the cable company and have already switched to DishNetwork. When will they add you tothe local line up?
Robert Stephenson, Ironton
I already have Direct TV and will really love getting local channels. Finally I will know what is going on in my area and not LA or California.
Donald L. Elam, II, Danville
Charter and the other cable companies in our area have taken advantage of all of us by offering next to nothing in the cable department and having us pay more than many in sourounding states. They are robbing us blind and telling most folks they can't come to their house or we can't offer that channel even when its in high demand. Other services being offered like cable internet and such are as well being with held from the majority as the companies have no plans period to move into rural cities where it could benefit the area economicaly due to the lack of infrastructure WV has. With satillite you get many different channels, high speed internet from them if you want, and tons of other options that some cable providers have you pay for like boxes and equipment.
Justin Adams, Richwood
I live in a remote area of wva and a tv antenna does not pike up local tv very good i do have directv and i would like to get local channels on it
Billy Rhodes, Gandeevillee
I have direct satellite and kept my small tv set up so I can get the news. I took off their channels because they never covered our area.
Robert Fetty, Pomeroy,Ohio
Anything would beat the over-charging of the cable company!!!
David L. Keefer, Ripley
The only downfall of mini-dish satellite services is the lack of local channels and the required equipment. Now that both services are planning to add local channels to their listings as well as their equipment plans makes the choice even favorable, especially for those who live in an area that the cable companies refuse to service. We have been trying for two years to get the cable company to service our area but they refused to. Mini-dish satellite services were eager to provide us with service. Now that mini-dish satellite services are going to offer local channels also as well as satellite based internet services there would be absolutely no reason to even consider accepting cable service now. Times have changed since the days of the enormous satellite sitting out in the front yard the size of your car and a paycheck to pay the bill.
JT, Pt. Pleasant
I have already have small directv in my home
John L.Waak, Dunbar
We already have dish network and are very anxious to be able to receive the local channels. Very happy that this going to happen!
June Decoster, Oxford, ME
Very poor service from the local cable company!
Phil Hayden, Charleston
I HATE dealing with Charter Communications. The only good thing they have is their cable modem service. I think the picture quality, and choices of programming you can get with satellite companies beat Charter hands down.
Susan, Charleston
The only reason I subscribe to cable instead of satellite is to hear local news and weather. My family income is from construction work which depends on the local weather.
Elkview
I think that is great news. I've had a Sat. dish since directv started. I don't have cable in my area. & i cannot pickup your channel with a antenna without ghosting, because of the mountains & I live in charleston. I had to get a waiver just to receive the network stations on the dish. Now I can see local news from charleston when they add them to our area.
Tom, Charleston
This is wonderful for rural communities. They have no choice but satellite and have always missed out on local news. From a former outlander it would be wonderful and I may even consider it in the city.
B Stalnaker, Point Plesant
Already have small dish but are not able to recive local channel or network feed we are very much looking forward to the change
Junior Adkins, Culoden
Can't wait until it happens. We can't get the local channels, but we do have a satelite dish (Direct TV) and have had it for about 5yrs. I think the quality of the picture is greater than cable or anyother service.
Donald G. Myles,Sr., Spencer
Finally I will be able to have local channels with decent picture quality.
Mark McClay, Lucasville,Ohio
No way. Want the ability to have whole house tv as with cable.
Huntington
Direct TV has so much clearer picture than cable.
Bryan, Milton
Due to picture quality on Inter Mountain Cable
Keith Coleman, Pikeville
