A SAMPLING OF YOUR RESPONSES:

Depends--if it was on the job or off duty
Clinton Kyle Spencer, Chapmanville
No one should drink and drive I don't care if you are the Pope, president or a DMV employee no one has the right to put others in danger! Don't be so stupid people! It takes all kinds! Definitely should lose their job.
Jessica Linville, Huntington
I think so, after all they should set an example for the rest of us.
David Leach, Pomeroy Ohio
If he was driving a company vehicle he should be fired and have his license revoked.
Russell Taylor, Dustin, Ok
There is no reason to be behind the wheel of a vehicle drunk. NONE. This man has to take responsibilty for his own action.
R. Pullin, Pt. Pleasant
Well the obvious answer would be YES! But knowing past cases, simular to this case I highly doubt that this person will be punished for this violation ! The reality of West Virginias political Protect the Boys system code will not be broken !
Judge Roy Bean, Charleston
What is done on time away from work is their business no one elses.
Edna, St. Albans
Well if that is their policy that an empolyee would loose his job the he should be treated like any other employee would be. Just because he is the service manager he should not get special treatment. He should loose his license just like anyone else would. But more than likely he wont.
Donna, St Albans
No driver should be outside the law
George Stewart, Daytona Beach, Fl
Lead by Example
D Doss, Saint Albans
They should not be treated any diffrerent than anyone else whou commits that offense.
Bob Booth, Sod
No, anybody can make a mistake (once) and a persons job is their families bread and butter. If it was a repeated act or if the person was drunk on the job, thats a different story. As much as I don't like drunk drivers its not fair to lose your job because of one mistake and besides,I am sure the DMV has had a few more embarrassing things happen and those employees didn't lose their jobs I am sure.
Rhonda Rogers, Spencer
They should not be treated any differently than anyone esle just for where they work
Tammy, Thurman
If it part of their job to drive, then most deffinately yes.
Neva, Nitro
He should lose his license for 1 yr and mandatory aa meetings . 2Nd offense vehicle confiscated but this should apply to all drivers
Bettie, Mason
A CDL driver can lose his license for the same offence. He would then be out of a job driving a truck. These drivers are aware of the consequences before they DUI. A DMV manager should be expected to obey the same rules that they enforce.
Leon Daugherty, Charleston
Surely a bad example for all, especially young people. Thinking they could get away with anything.
Jeanne, Vincent OH
We all make mistakes, and hopefully learn from them.
Mike Gold, Chadron, Nebraska
They are suppose to be role models! if they can not do that right why do it at all?
James Wright, Charleston
I dont think he should be treated any different than anybody else and if that means he loses his job over this, well he should've known better.
Tracy Ellis, Cottageville
Unless it happened on the job, nobody should be fired for a first time misdemeaner.
Paul Gram, Salt Rock
A person's job should not be the determining factor in any legal argument on a first time conviction. Police officer, fire fighters or any government employee should have the same legal rigthts as any other citicen and not be treated differently just because of their job title. We all make mistakes and are human.
Mike Seymour,
All people make mistakes! If it was in a state owned vehicle by all means he should be fired.
Kent Parrish, Linn, Missouri (grew up in WV)
I don't believe this person should lose his livelihood due to an ignorant mistake that (thankfully) did not cost anyone their life. However, I do feel that he should be demoted from his current position (as he is clearly too irresponsible for the duties associated with being a manager.) And, as a condition of continued employment, he should be required to attend AA meetings.
Sunny, Saint Albans
Although he should receieve his just punishment by law, his position should remain. Look at all the other posisitions held and kept by people who commit crimes. Why pick out one person?
Carol, Salem
I think the government should mind their own business. Many of your higher status administrators have these all the time and just know enough connections to get ride of them. I've heard of it before. Just lower-paid, less connected individuals have to answer for their deeds.
Rebecca, Charleston
Just because the person was employed by the DMV shouldn't change anything. If this person were employed by any other company, would it be fair to be fired because of a DUI? It just happens to be very ironic that the person was employed at the DMV...ironic not illegal.
Sarah, Charleston
Most definitely. The employees of W.Va. Dept. of Motor Vehicles should be the prime example for ALL drivers.
Jane Cox, Huntington, WV
I think ANYONE working for a state agency-especially the DMV (of all people) should be terminated. They should be an asset to the state not a liability! Thanks!
Jane Wyatt, Spencer
If the individualís occupational function is so distinctly a part of or tremendously influenced by, his or her personal life that the line separating the two becomes unrecognizable, then yes, an employee of the Department of Motor Vehicles found guilty of drunken driving should be fired. A "Transportation Services Manager" however, does not fit this description.
Jeff Estep, Charleston
This firing should be done to set a precedent at DMV, and to all employees in government agencies, that this behavior won't be condoned. It further will support Mother's Against Drunk Drivers and their team for wanting drunk drivers off the highways. One life saved is worth it! Sometimes we pay strong consequences for our mistakes, but it's time for punishment to begin. Don't let this person off the hook, it may happen again, and people could lose their lives including this employee of DMV. They need to learn a good lesson from this experience, a real good one!
Betty Janice Dooley, Charleston
Why shouldd they? Other people go ahead and work after DUI's they should be punished like any other person, but not fired
Helen Naylor, Cross Lanes
They deserve the same judgement as any ordinary citizen
Ralph E. Sigman, Ripley
I think that since it is the law YES that indivdual should be terminated. It's the law with no exceptions.
Dawn, Madison
Take their driver's license and make them keep working at the dmv and explian why they can't drive for all the ones taking the drivers' test that would be just punishment
Will Horton, Princeton
Yes they should for they are in a position to know better
Robert, London Canada
When a person is in the public's eye and set the examples or right and wrong then yes they should be fired. It will only teach others that if you do something wrong then depending on your job title then you will be able to get out of trouble.
Amy Young, Belpre, Ohio
NO,NO,NO..A lot of you don't know what all we have to go thur. jail time, probation, fines, lose of even more money due to our reason's. A MAN WITHOUT HIS DRIVERS LIC. is most sorryful, HE can't take care his family, himself or even feel like a MAN. Yes, I understand if others are hurt, another story, many DUI's don't go there. Or more than two DUI's another story, what is his story. But loosing his job, you might as well brand him as a rapist, child molester,(no,kill him, and send him to hell) would that be enough to please the people? I ask you, put yourself in his shoe,s, talk to us, feel our pain, you are a news reporter, report our side. We hurt ourself, understand, Jesus died for everyone. I'm one who is very sorry for my mistake. We still need love and a JOB.
Jay Johnson, Oscoda, Mi.
I think that its bad enought that his bond was low if it was a nobody it would have been higher. But I guess when u work for the state you can get away with anything it seem. I wish they would have all the laws for all the people not just for some. Look Tom M. the news reporter he was let off with a slap on the wrist. But I douth this will get much attention since its against the state.
Helen McQuillan, Charleston
Yes, I believe no matter who you are, or where you are employed at all should be treated tha same!! why should he receive other treatment? He can mame or kill an innocent person the same as any other drunk driver!!
Kathy, Evans
The fact that you're even asking this question supports the continuing ignorance of a DISEASE called alcoholism; one that can be treated and kept in remission if you will, much like cancer. This society and the State of West Virginia owes it to the individual and all who are afflicted with this disease an easy, inexpensive means of treatment as opposed to the standard medevil practice of hiding and disposing of the perceived weak, undisciplined DRUNKS that have tainted and embarrassed our society and families. These individuals need HELP; not punishment.
B.L., Charleston
No, but if convicted, he certainly should not be permitted to operate any State vehicle.
Jackie, Pinch, WV
I believe that if they are going to enforce stiff DUI penalties to civilians then why should any state employees be exempt from those same penalties. That would seem to show favourtism and would be unfair.
Tabatha Kayser, South Charleston
Why should he looses his job when there are thousand of others that dont get fired from there jobs.....He should be process just like anyone ele reguardless if he works for dmv or not.
B. McDonald, Nitro
