A SAMPLING OF YOUR RESPONSES:

We need to improve our state's infrastructure. I don't think a tower visible in the distance will distract from the importance of the sites.
Michael, St. Albans
We have enough thank you
Roy B, charleston
Isn't there somewhere else they could put it where it would be effective but not on a historical site?
A. Caplinger, Ravenswood
I think cell phone towers are a blight on the landscape and I would support any restriction on their placement.
Paul, Dunbar
I feel the integriy of any historic areas should be preserved. So many people and companies now days are so focused on 'modernization' and do not care about our past.
Jeff, Elkins, WV
I think our history should be perserved. this can not be done with sites of where the future is taking us.
Ryan Ashley, Charleston
Let,s try to preserve as much history as we can. Why does our historacle sites have to violated by clutter? My greatgrandfather fought in the civil war and I like to feel the battle field belong to those brave young BOYS who gave their lives for our United States
G Plank, Hornell N.Y.
It's a shame that the state shows such disregard to historical significant sites. This state was born out of the War Between the States and to show such blatent disrespect for these sites where men died for the cause of freedom is sad but typical.
Carl Tilley, Charleston, WV
First it is a tower, then next it will be a parking lot or amusement park. These battlefields should be held in trust for our children, and their children. Not populated with modern structures. The men that died there deserve the memorial.
Sharon Powell, Houston, Texas
Progress is not always a good thing, I think major historical sites should be preserved. I however also think that there are to many historical sites. An example would be charleston city hall, it's an old building with no real historical value, the building needs to be replaced with a more modern bulding that is functional
Mark Fulks, Charleston
Its wrong, they can build them somewhere else!
Ashley, Charleston
Its thing like this that keep this state behind the rest of the country, those towers would cause absolutely no harm to the environment
Bob Lawson, Charleston
This is BS!! This is history and don't need no damn towers near it!!
Billy Joe Lester, Welch
Civil war battlefields should be kept intact! This is our history for ages to come. I have visited the civil war battlefields and would have to see them disturbed. Gettysburg has not been touched, nor should others. Having been born in West Virginia and I go back to visit, I do not want to see this area distured.
Craig Salter, Germantown, OH
If the towers can be constructed in such a way as to blend in with the surroundings
David Mills, Scott Depot
Basicly we have enough reservation too build towers other than a spot, than somewhere than people will get affended like me. Dont put it custer or george but i respect what we fought for essence we do earn respect from all cultures.
Gregory D. Carder., Wyandotte, MI
I think we need to leave our Historical Landmarks alone. A tower like this built around a landmark would be an eyesore.
Jeri Hall, Frametown
No, it would take away from the hestorid landmarks. Every thing people value, someone wnats to interfear with. They could put towers else where. When you go to historic places you go for past history. Not to look at towers. Thank you Paul
Paul Nelson, Racine
Of course, you can always place a plaque at the base or somewhere like in tribute to the civil war heros, a communications tower is something needed by the American people, its not like you are putting in a Hooters, know what i mean?
Carl D. Mick, Charleston
They are unsightly and when new technologies are invented, they would probabley stay up anyway.
John Battel, Bristol, TN
I think that the improvement in communications will be well worth the sight pollution. The people protesting against this are the very ones who will complain if their car is broken down and they cannot call out on their cell phone for help. Perhaps there is a way to make the towers more viewer friendly ie, painting the towers to match the countryside, etc.
Lora Lipscomb, Elkview
I think that too many historic landmarks are being ruined by new buildings and construction sites. I don't think people remember that once these old landmarks are gone - they're gone. That's one thing that man cannot reproduce. So out of all the places to build, they should leave the Civil War Battlefields and the Appalachian Trail alone. After all, they're the only ones we'll ever have! It's sad even locally to see anything with a historic value get torn done or shunted aside by modern technology. I say preserve the past!
