EYEWITNESS NEWS QUESTION OF THE DAY RESPONSE

Did you suffer damage from the massive ice storm last weekend?

A SAMPLING OF YOUR RESPONSES:

I have quite a bit of trees and branches down in my yard. I have a hole in my kitchen ceiling. My daughter lives next door, and a big branch put quite a hole in her kids bedroom, now the ceiling is leeking on the bed and rug. Had no idea how much damage, till we both got our electric on, after 6 days. What a mess.
lori stewart, Mt.Alto

I fell andd broke my tailbone o the ice!
Olivia Farley, beckley

The damage was no electric from Sunday till Wednesday evening. Now, a comment and a question. It is commendable for DHHR to replace the food stamps for families (that's great); but, what about the people who don't receive food stamps? We have to replace our food ourselves? Some of the people had just done grocery shopping, before the storm. There should be something to help everyone, not just some. Thanks.
Kay Nelson, Milton, WV

My damage is that you will not grant temporary Fox waivers for sat. dishes, even though you are off the air. You get a fake WVAH signal to a single cable system in four hours, but you won't turn you hand and grant a blanket temporary waiver to DirecTV and Dish Network customers, something that would cost you nothing and take 90 seconds of your time. Inconsiderate, unprofessional, and petty.
Sam Cook, Scott Depot

We were without electricity, phone and water until Thursday,20th. We were only able to get news and storm information from the radio. I am very disappointed in our Charleston stations that we normally listen to. They never gave any information on Gallia county Ohio. They talked about Spencer and places much further away.
Vickie Damron, Gallipolis

We lost all our power sunday afternoon and then proceeded to loose a freezer full of meat by the next evening, didn't get power again until 6:00 last evening, we had trees fall everywhere, it actually looked like a war zone, it will take months to clean this up.
Debbi Parker, Cowen

I live in Minford,OH (scioto county) and the ice storm did and still is creating extensive damage and problems. My home was without power from Sunday to late Thursday, sometimes we had water and phone and sometimes not. All trees in my yard were virtually destroyed or have heavy damage. It looks like a war zone in many areas of our county. My Husband and I still have a number of relatives without power. I would also like to add that I am greatful to the professional electric and tree workers who are getting paid for these long hours of work; I feel not enough is being said for the residents of the county who have worked hours and hours removing trees from roads only to have to go back inside to a cold house with no heat and no electric to even fix a hot cup of coffee. I have a large family and many of them have spent long hour after hour, day after day, using their own trucks and saws to clear roads they do not even live on just to help others. These community memb! ers are the real heros and I probably would have no electric to even send this email if not for men like my uncles who worked many, many hours. Kelly Emmons
Kelly Emmons, Minford, OH

I had several trees damaged and as of today my home has been without electricity for one week. My family and I had to leave to stay with relatives in the Huntington area.
Janet Cowan, Mount Alto, WV

Yes we suffered. We had a power outage and it lasted for about 7-8 hrs i don't actually how long it was because our clocks didn't work. Besides the power outages that was about all.
Breezy, Cross Lanes

The State Road did a good job keeping the roads open, (Snow & Ice Removal ) also cutting trees off road way, Now how soon will it take to clean up the Debris that was left in the Ditches
Robert Bowyer, Sutton W.Va. 26601

No electric, water, heat. We had food to spoil. The trees broke like toothpicks breaking, and fell like dominoes.
Johnnie, Scottown

I live in Logan County, West Virginia I was not directly affected by the ice but due to the WKLC tower collapse I cant listen to Rock 105.
Chris Bias, Sharples

We had two lovely clump birch trees that I had planted when I move to this property 28 years ago. The ice put so much stress on them, that several of the trunks broke nearly 30 feet from the ground. One of these landed on a large dogwood nearby and broke some of the limbs from it also. My vehicle became entrenched in the ice and while trying to extricate it, it became buried until the frame was sitting on the edge of the concrete driveway causing the necessity of a wrecker being called. Besides this, thank God, we suffered no other damage. The trees were near the house and could have fallen on it, causing damage to the structure. Many of our neighbors' trees were also damaged.
Sheila Byrne, Sutton

Of course I did. Didn't everyone? We had to throw out $200-300 dollars of food. We also lost about $20-30 dollars of tropical fish. Plus I had to take vacation for two days of missed work. This is not planned and now I will actually have to take vacation days this spring without pay. I don't know yet about the trees in our yard that may need to be replaced if they don't bounce back from the ice damage.
Sheila Troy, Pt. Pleasant

Well it is not just from last week, but over the weekend from this week the weather was bad again. The weather got really bad In Kanawha County and i don't think those kids should have been send to school today. I think that the rivers were high and that alot of houses were flooded in kanawha county, and there was alot of wrecks. I just think that some people should have thought about the kids that now don't have homes in Kanawha County and that they should have waited a day or two for them to go back to school. They shouldn't have to worry about missing school, while their worrying about if their going to have a home now or not.
Natalie Bishop, Charleston

Lost everything in our freezer after the power was off from 9:00 a.m. on Sunday until 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Richard Westfall, Orma, WV

We had so much ice on our hillside driveway, that when the electric came back on and schools opened we could not go. Four days of electic out& now more snow!We hope to make it to the science fair at Ohio University. Not being able to get out of your own driveway is frightening!
Sandy Murray, Jackson Ohio

The damage I suffered, and still am, is that I have Adelphia cable, and for some reason I can't understand, they are showing the worst, and I do mean the worst television I have ever been exposed to(and I lived in Korea for a while). I mean come on people, Death Valley, Night Rider and info-mercials just ain't gonna cut it. I'd rather watch a test pattern.
Louie McNeal, Ashland

Our power went out late Sunday night on Feb,16,2003 And although it was hard going without power for a few day's, we also learned that our neighbors are always there to help. We had people calling to see if we needed anything, And also helping with the clean up. We had quite a few trees to come down. But we were all there for each other. I just want to say thanks to guys from Pike Electric and all the other electric comanies that pitched in to help restore so power to so many of our families and friends. Our fellow West Virginians. Thanks to all who helped.
Teresa, Cowen

We were without power for 8 days, and ran up 8 days of hotel bills. My grandfather is on a breathing machine and was unable to use it for 8 days. We are still without water, total of 10 days. The only thing that kept our electric off was one pine tree fallen over a line, it took AEP crews 15 minutes to fix once they got here on the 8th day and our home is only 3 miles from I-77. We were not even in a rural area and have 20 houses on the road we live on. I think that this storm was poorly dispatched. If there were trees over the lines then AEP would not touch them until ASPLUND got out to cut them off the line. And AEP informed us that they were not supposed to do individual hook ups until last, but were down the road at an individuals home hooking up their drop line prior to the remaining persons on our road getting electric. This whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth.
Stephanie Crouch, Ripley

We had a lot of damage, downed trees and power line. Loss of electricity for 5 days some are still without. Trees falling on houses. Roads shut off due to downed trees and power lines.
Cindy Starcher, Spencer

We was without electric for around 3 days many peoples meats spoiled. And it was really a mess.
Tonya Cummings, Procious (Clay)

our electric has been out since sunday feb. 13 and its the 25th noe. they told us it will be another month before we get electric. thats crazy.
Denis Eric Canter Jr, Oak Hill, oh

The only damage I received from the storm was the Fox 11 tower being down and I am stuck with the horrible Adelphia cable that is taking forever to get it back on the air. Please someone make Adelphia go out of business or at least give us a choice cable companies.
Chris, Elkview

I live in Jackson County. The biggest damage I suffered was the loss of income (from not being able to get out of my road to get to work) and the loss of the contents of my freezer, after a week without electricity. I do commend the power company for it's efforts to get the power restored as quickly as they could.
Rhonda Akers, Evans

Surprisingly, we did not suffer any damage (not that we know of anyway!)
Sandy Cooper, South Charleston

And I miss my Fox 11 broadcasts!!! When will I be able to get the channel using my antenna again? WAHHHH
Elaine Forbes, Point Pleasant

Many people did and I feel very sorry. Some lost homes. Some even lost lifes. No, we did not get hit massive.
Amanda, Whitesville

We lost power and a lot of trees, fences down. but what really freaked me out was on Saturday i was out in the fields checking damage and was bitten by a mosquito! I guess spring is really coming sometime soon--- please?
Judy Barr, near Ripley

I did not but my daughters friend did and she lost alot of food and does not get food stamps . Who is going to replace her food? Not the state .
Teresa, South Charleston
