A SAMPLING OF YOUR RESPONSES:

Reducing 'the size of government departments' requires more than just personnel reductions. The Departments need to look at all areas of spending; travel, office rentals, perks, services, supplies, etc. The government needs to manage budgets just as all individuals and business must do.
Randy Hendren, Nitro
thats just stupid we earn the money and should get to spend it how we want
breezy, beckley
yes people have to reduce spending to survive so should the governments
cloyd thorn, parkersburg
It is always the wrong departments that get down sized.

Why layoff the hard working
CC, Charleston
Is it going to save money when it will take longer to acomplish a task with fewer employees. There will be a lot of issues that will be swept aside, waiting for some one else to do it that isn't there.
Greg Holmes, Chas
Of course some of the state departments r 2 fat. We can blame the over expense in personnel 2 the underwood era. All of your department heads are way over paid..
Rob, St Albans
Yes. When our taxes are raised we have to analyze our family budget and see what things we can elimiate and/or tighten to make up for the increased taxes. Its about time someone at the state level did the same thing instead of automatically passing the burden to the citizens.
Ed Crookshanks, Charleston
Yes I think he is right, but the personnel costs need to be cut from the top management staff. Those are the high dollar guys and most of them are political hires and they aren't even qualified for their jobs. They are here because they did a dandy fine job when the governor was running for office.
Chris, Elkview
No, reducing government office sizes is not the only way, although there are some offices that need reductions. This governor is paying salaries far above peoples'
C Maupin, Nitro
There are many other ways to cut the spending then cutting governement departments. If you cut to many departments then there will be more people out of work and that might cut spending by a little but it's not worth the effect that it would have on the economy.
Katie Webb, Ripley
NO WAY! The Dept heads make too much money!!!!! I think if they are going to cut jobs they should cut their pay first! Don't put hard working West Virginians out of work, it isn't their fault, they do what they are told. It's the Heads of Divisions, Dept and Agencies that need a pay cut and all would be fine. Let them work pay to pay and worry if the phone is going to be cut off because it was either that or food. This state is in dire need of help....serious help and I do not believe lay-offs are the answer. I feel that if I were the person to be laid off I would be very upset and not very understanding. It is hard enough to make it with a paycheck these days...what does he want an increase in the homeless, something I HAVE NEVER heard him address.
Sally , Charleston
I think that it only makes good sense that when five people can do a job in a dept. why in the world do you have eight people in that dept. It is simple eight grade math.
Billy Brown, Alum Creek
I feel the departments have been cut enough. More attention should be given to those that have highest salary's. I think there is too many cooks in the kitchen.

that the way they can bring more job in west virgina a love 1 who have to leave west virgina can come home
johnny canterbury, lexington nc 27292
The State of West Virginia needs all the help it can get. It can start by helping itself. This is a very bold and positive move on the part of the governor. Hopefully some of us will be able to come back home soon.

Mybe somewhat,; I think if the state would raise the highway toll fee 15 cents and not state tax all the tobacco fee but 25cents, even that much of an increase will even slow down the WV Tobacco Fields, and lots of people will kick the habit; because I beleive that much of a tax for the working WV tobacco farmer is to much, and also the poor people that can't aford the tobacco price's the way they already are.
C.M. Lester, Gilbert
What would help is a percentage cut from those making over $60,000. Since most public employees make under $20,000.Also, a lot of the employees are not entitled to over time or comp. time. I know people who work over time all the time.
