A SAMPLING OF YOUR RESPONSES:

All the people in our jails are not bad... some are & some have just made mistakes... good or bad.. they still deserve a good meal on Christmas.
Debbie Ashby, Griffithsville

I think that they should take the money and give it to a victim of violent crimes fund.
Jeff, Nitro

They should have what usually have to show them if they act better they could get better meals on holidays.
Richard Sutphin, Seth, WV

I think that they should take the money and give it to a victim of violent crimes fund.
Jeff, Nitro

They are there to be punished not rewarded. I could think of alot of children and their familes who would love to have a warm meal on christmas
Joni

they dont deserve christmas dinner because they should be punish for what they did.
loretta gandee, elkview

Inmates are Human beings regardless of the Crime. If it were your Loved one, wouldn't you want a Dinner for them? ( No I have no loved one's in jail) God loves the Inmate but Hates their Crime. :o)
Terry Layton, Charleston, WV

If they are in jail, they should get no privedledges, and this includes Christmas. I recently learned that the Salvation Army gives the prisoners clothes for Christmas with the money that we give them. I think that this is not right. The money that we donate to the bell ringers should be used to help the community, NOT PRISONERS!!! They have committed a crime and they do not need to be
Kellie Pittman, Fayetteville

Yes I think Prisoners should have a Christmas dinner. Just because they did a crime is no reason why they cannot have a nice meal during the holidays. They have feelings also, and they are being punished so why would you want to punished more by not giving them a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. Please remember that God loves us all and he forgives all of our sins....Even the ones behind bars.
Valerie, Huntington

Mr. Veltri is well known for caring for the needy. Why would part of his fortune be willed to care for those that have chose to destroy the community we live in or even worse someones life with uncalled for nonsense. The money pprovided to the jail could have been used to give those that are less fortunate shelter, clothes and or happiness even if it was just for 1 day. They always say Don't Do The Crime If You Can't Do The Time. The prisoners are not prisoners if we are going to provide them with JOY during the holidays. What about those people that are dealing with the result that these prisoners provided them with. Give the money to the victoms not the prisoners.I know we are suppose to open our hearts and give during this time but what did the prisoners give us?
Loren Kestner, Alum Creek

yes i think they should have the right they are normal people just like us ...yea they have done bad things but they are doing time for that they have done they have the same right as u and me to be able to celebrate this time of year i mean come on people stop being like this Its sad the way people act like this and some of yall say u are christens God wouldnt want u to be like this !what if it was your son or brother in there? would you not care? Yes you would ! please get a grip!
dawn, charleston

no because if they got in jail they should just do the time!!!!
amanda ford, charlton heights

They put themselves there. They should not be entitled to something they do not deserve.
lewis e. gordon, kimberly

bread and water
Keith R Shirley, Leon

I don't feel we should question Frankie Veltri's wishes. If this was his desire, so be it. If the tax payers were footing the bill, it would be a different story.
Gene Moore, Belle, WV

What would Jesus do?
Linda, Charleston

even though they are in jail the are syill people.
misty chapman, pikeville, ky

I'm an inmate advocate and yes I think they all deserve a good meal on Christmas but not just Christmas--everyday. What if it were your loved one? Would they deserve a good meal? Not every inmate is guilty, there are many that are innocent but even the guilty ones deserve to be treated like a human and yes they deserve a good meal. I would fix it for them if I could. You know...Christ forgave you! The amount of forgiveness and compassion you give someone will also be gave to you. May God Bless the inmates...every single one of them! I would like the wish every inmate in the state a Merry Christmas!
Tami Craig, Leon

Even though these people have commited crimes, they pay for it everyday out of the year and should get at least one day to celebrate the birth of their Savior anyway that they can.
Jenna Parsons, Letart

I believe that inmates should be allowed to have a Christmas dinner because it is a time of sharing. Jesus would not want anyone, even criminals, eating an inferior meal on his birthday. Christmas is the time to extend our hands to all humans, not just the ones we choose.
Chris Kuharich, Scott Depot

Everyone, convicts and all, need to know what the Christmas season is all about-to celebrate the birth of the one who forgives all. The incarcerated are people, too, and should know that love.
Dan Alvis, St Albans

There is Atleast One Person In Prison That Is Innocent. Everyone Deserves A Christmas Dinner.
Cassandra Johnson, Pond Gap

They should of thought about what they were risking before they did the crime. They dont deserve a decent dinner in my opinion.
Mike, Summersville

The Tax Payers Would Be Paying For Them To Have Christmas Dinner,And They Dont Get Any thing Else For Christmas. So For Gods Sake Give Them Christmas Dinner
David Burford Jr, Shrewsbury

I think they should be given Christmas dinner. The whole idea of Christmas is to celebrate Jesus' birthday. They too should take part. No matter what they did. It's their right to participate.
Nika Thomas, 17, charleston

My mom will spend Christmas at SCRJ this year and I am glad that Mr. Veltri's will is providing this meal. It's better than the maggots that were served in the peaches last week.
Amy, Tornado

I Feel That Christmas Is A time of sharing no matter what you have done in your past so therfore each and every person living in the world today should be treated with a well cooked christmas dinner to celebrate the birth of jesus
Darius Johnson, Pond gap

Everyone deserves to have a Christmas dinner know matter where you are on that SpEcIaL cHrIsTmAs DaY !
Lisa, Charleston

Yes I believe they are atleast intitled to christmas dinner
Rachel Burford , Shresbury WV

If we can give POW`s christmas and thanksgiving dinners during war time, I think we can give prisoners Christmas dinner.
D. Mullins, milton

Hell no!!! They are supposed to be in jail! That 43-hundred could be spent on someone who really needs it!
Andy, Charleston

i do not beleave that inmates should get a dinner like that if they hadint done anyhting wroung they would be able to jails are ment for disiplin not gettin spoiled
christian george, elkview

They are in there because they have commited some crime so they need to be punished and giving them a nice meal sure isn't being punished.
Robert Casto, Clendenin

I feel that they should be given a Christmas dinner. They are in jail to be rehabilitated so that they can return to society changed. Keeping them depressed and down is only going to serve to harden them further. Everyone deserves a little peace, and at Christmas what a better time to start.
Stacey Allen, Slater's Branch

Why shouldn't they?? It is not costing the tax payers anything!
Lez C., Cross Lanes

As a humane and civilized society, one does not know what knowing that even one person cares for their welfaore. Perhaps that kindness will make a real difference in another's life.
Sheila Hager, Logan

they are prisioners but they are still human beings, they can't have christmas dinner with there family's and friends, but they are still intittled to a meal to celebrate the lords birthday.
P Huffman, barboursville

They made mistakes, they are paying for their mistakes with their freedom. The least we can do for them is give them a good dinner.
diana sue

Everyone desirves to eat. They should get a decent meal for Christmas too, because God loves us all no matter what. After all this is to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
Crystal Nash, Clendenin

Don't ask me about the incarcerated luxuries, state of the art fitness equipment, first class recreational accessories, Law Libraries. Christmas Meals heck yeah. Resort ccommodations HEL NO!
Jeff Taulton, Elkview

Frankie Veltri knew the real meaning of
Sara Aikin, Branchland, WV

Despite the fact that that the majority of prisoners are locked up like caged animals due to their own acts of arrogance & stupidy, I feel that for one day out of 365...what the heck? Give 'em a Christmas Dinner! It may JUST serve as a reminder of the life they're missing out on the rest of the year...
Robert Halstead, Clothier

I think they should get a Christmas meal, I just don't think that it should be extravagant or cost a lot extra. You can feed them turkey and the trimmings without it costing too much. Everyone should have a Christmas.
Julie, Red House

After all they are humans too. Besides alot of them are rehabilitated but have no chance for parole. They deserve to have a Christmas Dinner.
Mike Ferrari, Elkview

Not all inmates are bad people. I spent X-Mas in prison myself, but that was about 12 years ago. I now lead a middle class lifestyle in a middle class neighborhood. I was very thankfull for holiday dinners.
Jeff, Winfield

No I do not think the inmates at the South Regional Jail should receive a feast on Christmas. Because they broke the law and it seems like to me they are in a way getting rewarded for comitting a crime. They should give the 43 hundred dollars to the people on the streets that do not have a place to live and don't receive a hot meal everyday like the inmates do.
Ronald Bailey, Scott Depot WV

We all got loved ones in some kind of unfair state and we as people ought to show love for everyone no matter the condition and yes they deserve it you feed your dog a good meal why not the inmate also the person who left the money had compassion for all people so dont dishonor his name with foolishness such as this feed the inmate its Jesus who we should celebrate and yes he would feed the inmate he feed us with his life remember that thank you
Jason M. Coles, Chas.

yeah, most prisoners are in for non-threat crimes and as such should be treated humanely, but firmly. those that don't wish to participate or who have been unruly and belligerent absolutely NOT!!
J. G. Coleman, Oak Hill, Ohio

We are a humane nation, their punishment is isolation from society.I remember this benefactor feeding many in the past.
Pat Ferguson, San Bernardino, CA

What would Jesus do? (Remember the thieves on the cross?) Just a thought.
Regina Kirk, Logan

Why should they enjoy what we will, when they put them selfs behind Bars. They can't have the same life both ways in prison. Prison is not suppose to be a Party. It's to pay for there crime.
Peggy Goodell, Telford

I think they need feed, but maybe not has elaborat. I dont wont anyone to go hungry they are the ones that did the crime. Maybe: Pinto beans. We have heard so much about the homeless even in todays paper and the mountain tops. I would love to have a mountain top that we could build a place for the homeless, they need a place to be feed and to keep warm.
Loretta Stapler, Cabin Creek, WV 25035

I have never heard of roast beast, but Sure they get internet access and new Tv's and playstation why not. Why dont we let them out for a few days 2 go Christmas shopping.
Rob, St Albans

Why should any convicted criminal get a better meal than some of the less forunate families in this area? It is just proposterous!
Matthew Murphy, Poca

Yes, but NOT if they are on death row! Their victims won't have one. If I were a jailer I doubt if they would have the benefits they all get as it is. By the way - I've only recently found your web site and like it very much! Nice Job!
Eleanor, Merrimack, NH

Whenever they committed the crime, they decided then for themselves to have everything taken away.
Kristie Hill, Kenna

Bread and water! What are you going to do reward them for a job well done? You made it - you sleep in it! Feed the feast to the poor and homeless.
Bo Carter, Ravenswood

Christmas dinner is a reward, do we really want to reward those who we've punished? Isn't that backwards? I mean going to prison anymore is like going to away to school. They get free classes, sports, books, games, and all kinds of free things to do...what next a pool party and a hot tub? What happened to Prison being punishment?
Natalie Galusha, Detroit, Mi.

Everyone should get to eat a Christmas dinner no matter what they have done. Jesus forgives,And we celbrate this holiday for Jesus.
barbara bill, east bank

These people are supposed to be being punished for crimes they have committed. They are already being rewarded for breaking the law and harming innocent people by being given free medical care, free dental, free counseling services, three free meals per day, access to a convenience store where they may buy $50 worth of junk food every week, televisions, books, a gymnasium in which to play basketball, etc. Why should they be served such extravagant meals when there are many hard-working, law-abiding families who will be going hungry this Christmas (like they do every other day of the year)?
Michelle, Charleston

yes! What ever happened to innocent until proven gulity. Christmas is the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus.Jesus would gladly serve theese people, therefore so should we.P.S This question was in very poor taste. Any true Christian would be offend by it. The answer is very obvious. I can't understand why news 8 would pose such a question. If MR. veltri wanted to give theese people a christmas dinner that was his business and it should be honored
Jodi Cope, Elkview

I think everyone in the world deserves to celebrate the grandiest holiday of all, Jesus's Birthday!!Have a Great one!!
Toni, Leon

yes i do! i believe that this question is a no brainer. if anybody says no then how they can even call themselves human is beyond me. this is a very special holiday.it is jesus' birthday. READ YOUR BIBLE. he showed love and kindness to ALL MANKIND. so i think it would be an insult to christ to not show the same love and kindness too.I mean the reason that most of the inmates that are in our prisons.grew up without love and kindness. and people like you (the ones who have the nerve to ask these questions )looked down on them and cast them out on the streets . don't get me wrong i do believe that people should pay for their crime but,we as human beings, while they are doing their time we shouldn't treat them as though they weren't human.this is a season of joy and happiness for EVERYONE. what kind of example are we showing our children today, by asking these rediculious questions.i think it is in ver!y poor taste to even post a question like this.especially with everything that our country is going through right now. you people want to bring up rediculious questions like that.all i can say is shame on you!!find something important to talk about or ask about.
sarah jackson, Charleston

Yes I do even though they did things bad they still deserve it. they are all a family in the jail cell. let them be good for the rest of the year.
Mike C, Grandville

We don't know the actual circumstances of what has led each of these individuals to prison, therefore, they should all be given Christmas dinner. If these were biblical times, Jesus would feed all of us.
Donna S., Chicago

Absolutely not! The day they committed such a crime that landed them in prison, was the day they lost the right to celebrate ANYTHING other than a sodom-free day. So on Christmas day, instead of serving them turkey and dressing in
Chris, Huntington

They are convicted and deserve punishment but Christ came for everyone, even the prisoners. Let them celebrate if they so chose.
Cory, Charleston

No Way!! They gave that up when they broke the laws of the land.
Angela Thompson, Barboursville, WV

They must be provided dinner anyway, why not a nice Christmas dinner?
paula davis, huntington

They are in prison for committing a crime! Why should punishment include Christmas dinner, stereos, tv's, or any other luxury? Do the crime, pay the time!
Shirley St.John, Easton,Ma.

I think GOD would want EVERYONE to have a good meal, regardless of WHAT they have done. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's ok to break the law!! Most of all, I don't think prisoners should receive special treatment either, they should pay for the crime they commit. But they shouldn't miss out on a meal this IMPORTANT holiday.
Sheila, Ravenswood

I think they should be served a christmas dinner. No matter what they did they are humans to. They deserve to eat just like anyone else.
Dj, Elkview

Mr Veltri was a good person. However, there are families out here that will do without. The prisoners are just that, prisoners. They are there to be punished. Making the jail like a resort does not teach them that what they did was wrong. Let us keep the jails just what they were intended to be, punishment. If the jails are an undesirable place to be, maybe the criminals will make an effort to stay out of them.
J. Hudson, Middleport

Yes I think they should. God wants us all to be feed. They may have commited crimes, but they are still human beings.
Karen, Lookout

YES! I think prisoners should have a Christmas dinner. The 25th is the day Jesus was born, and he died for us...WE are ALL his children. I don't think on this day He would want any one to not have a dinner to celebrate His birth. May God Bless You All ! Merry Christmas !
Sharon Conley, Huntington

They got themselves into this place. They have plenty to eat inside the prison. I feel that the homeless people who by the way have no warm place to sleep and nothing to eat . I feel that they are the ones who deserves to eat the dinner.
Cora Legg, Poca

No matter what they have done they are still people that need to be minestered too with food and understanding.
Bill Brown, Alum Creek WV.

They dont desire to have anything nice if they have done an awful crime in my book. They are in there for punishment not to be given treats. They should have thought about the holidays and their families before they committed the crime.
christine given, upperglade

It matters not what the inmates have done, I think they should be served a nice Christmas dinner. I think that would be the Christian thing to do. They are still human.
Laureda Collier, Logan

that money should have when to the people in the homeless shelters and not to the prisoners .. I can think of a number ways that money could have been spent on than to feed the prisoners ...they eat better then most people in West Virginia !!!!
beverly, charleston

It is Christmas. Maybe this will open their eyes, hearts and somehow change them for the best.
Debbie, Charleston

No I do not think the prisoners should get to eat a big dinner. Take a moment and think about all of the poor families and homeless families we have in this state. Why should those who have chose a life of crime be rewarded by eating a wonderful feast when those who are experiencing difficult times sit and only wish they could be eating that kind of feast.
Tonya Belcher, Comfort

what time of year is this?
William Martin, Poca,Wv
