BUS STOP KILLING
Teen sentenced to 36 years to life for fatally shooting woman at bus stop in southwest Ohio

Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Tuesday, July 15, 2014 1:28 PM EDT
DAYTON, Ohio

A prosecutor says a teenager who pleaded guilty to fatally shooting a woman at a bus stop has been sentenced to 36 years to life in prison.

Montgomery County's prosecutor says 18-year-old Robert L. Jones was sentenced Tuesday in the county's common pleas court. The prosecutor had sought life in prison without parole. Jones was 17 at the time of the shooting but was tried in adult court.

Jones' attorney didn't immediately return a call.

The teen pleaded guilty this month to aggravated murder in 75-year-old Take Gangloff's slaying. Her body was found on a sidewalk near a bus stop with a gunshot wound to the head in September 2013.

Authorities said they thought Gangloff was waiting for a bus and Jones shot her while attempting to rob her.
