DRIVER SHOT-RELIGIOUS BOOK
FBI: No evidence of hate crime against white Ohio bus driver who said black men attacked him

Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Saturday, June 21, 2014 1:54 PM EDT
DAYTON, Ohio

The FBI says it found no evidence of a hate crime while investigating a white bus driver's report that he was shot and stabbed in an attack by three black men in southwestern Ohio.

Rickey Wagoner told police he was outside his Dayton city bus in February when the men assaulted him. He said a religious book in his shirt pocket blocked two bullets, and one hit his leg. He also said he was stabbed in the arm.

Police said Wednesday that evidence and testing didn't support Wagoner's story and closed their investigation.

FBI spokesman Todd Lindgren said the FBI also concluded its investigation into the possibility of a hate crime.

No criminal charges have been filed.

A recording at a listing for Wagoner wasn't accepting new messages this week.
