DRUG CONSPIRACY
Last of 38 defendants in drug conspiracy case sentenced to 151 months in northern Kentucky

Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Friday, May 30, 2014 5:57 PM EDT
COVINGTON, Ky.

The last of more than three dozen people to be sentenced in a prescription drug ring that operated in northern Kentucky and southern Ohio has been sentenced to 12 ½ years in prison.

The U.S. attorney's office announced Friday that 34-year-old Nick Sandlin of Cincinnati was sentenced Thursday to 151 months in prison. Sandlin will be required to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence.

Prosecutors say the case involved 38 defendants and distribution of some 80,000 prescription pills. Court records indicate Sandlin admitted conspiring to distribute oxycodone and organizing trips to pain clinics in Florida, where several co-defendants obtained oxycodone prescriptions.

Prosecutors said the entire investigation resulted in forfeiture of five motor vehicles, 25 firearms, 12 pieces of real estate and approximately $110,000 in currency.
