CEDARVILLE, Ohio


The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado with an estimated maximum wind speed of 145 mph struck near Cedarville in western Ohio. A preliminary statement from the weather service says last night's twister probably rated as an EF3 on the 0-to-5 EF scale. No injuries were reported, but the tornado destroyed two houses and several other buildings as strong storms moved through the state.

Supporters of gay marriage in Ohio have delivered petitions to the state's attorney general urging him to drop his appeal of a federal judge's order on same-sex marriage. The state is appealing Judge Timothy Black's decision ordering Ohio to recognize gay marriages performed in other states.

More than half of the 52 people cited in a northwest Ohio cockfighting ring have pleaded guilty and were fined. Fulton County authorities said they seized 72 live roosters near the village of Delta during a raid earlier this month. The Blade newspaper reports all 36 people who have appeared in court so far have been convicted of single misdemeanor counts of animal fighting charges.

A new poll shows Ohio Governor John Kasich trailing Democrat Hillary Clinton in a hypothetical matchup in Ohio but still faring better than any other GOP candidate. The poll released today by Quinnipiac (KWIHN'-uh-pee-ak) University in Connecticut shows Clinton, the former secretary of state, leading the Republican Kasich 47 percent to 42 percent in the state.
