Lawsuit alleges man was punched, injured when he asked Cleveland officer for his badge number
Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Monday, May 12, 2014 4:42 PM EDT
A 26-year-old man says a Cleveland police officer beat him after he asked the officer for his name and badge number.
The suit says Tankersley, now retired, and his partner had stopped Warren to question him. The lawsuit claims Tankersley told Warren he could go, but allegedly punched him when Warren asked for his badge number. Warren was arrested for disorderly conduct and briefly jailed. The charge was dropped when officers failed to show up for a court appearance.
The lawsuit also names Patrolwoman Amy Carraway as a defendant.
A police union attorney did not return calls Monday. A city spokeswoman declined to comment.
