Authorities arrest 8 charged in alleged Ohio-to-Michigan drug trafficking pipeline

Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Monday, May 12, 2014 3:29 PM EDT
ATHENS, Ohio

Authorities in southeast Ohio have arrested eight people in an effort to shut down what they call a drug pipeline from Athens through Columbus to Detroit.

Authorities say five defendants are charged with drug trafficking and other crimes while another three face other drug charges including possession.

Officials announcing the charges Monday in Athens say a car chase through Glouster in southeast Ohio on May 6 ended with the arrest of a 26-year-old Glouster man on charges of drug trafficking and drug possession.

Authorities also say they confiscated Oxycodone pills worth $42,000 along with $17,000 in cash found in a box with the pills.

Monday's charges were announced by the Athens County prosecutor, the Athens County sheriff, Athens city police and Ohio University police.
