Ohio warns charter school sponsors to drop plans for several facilities, citing deficiencies

The Ohio Department of Education says three charter-school sponsors with plans to open six schools have been warned that they'll be shut down if they move ahead with those plans.
State Superintendent Richard Ross says students have lost educational opportunities and taxpayer funds have been wasted when planned charter schools failed to open or closed before the school year's end. He says the state wants to make sure sponsors are committed and opening quality schools.
The department says the sponsors that received warnings failed to meet expectations.
