BEACH RAMP-ARREST
Day at New Jersey beach ends in arrest for Ohio father

Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Friday, April 25, 2014 10:34 AM EDT
BRADLEY BEACH, N.J.

An Ohio man is awaiting a verdict after a day at a New Jersey beach ended with his arrest.

Charles Placa is charged with criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and defiant trespass.

It all started when the 59-year-old consulting engineer from Milford, Ohio, tried to get the key for the wheelchair ramp in Bradley Beach so he could get his 24-year-old daughter on the sand in July. She has cerebral palsy.

The Asbury Park Press reports Placa on Thursday testified he went to a beach hut, opened the door and asked for the key.

But the cashier who was working in the hut said she thought Placa was breaking in.

The judge will reach a verdict after attorneys submit summations within three weeks.
