Ohio businesses help with field, whistles, balls for Denver-Seattle Super Bowl matchup in NJ

Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Saturday, February 1, 2014 3:02 AM EST

Neither of Ohio's professional football teams made it to this year's Super Bowl, but the state is contributing to the big event in other ways.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown says several businesses from the Buckeye State had a role in providing equipment for the game.

Maumee Bay Turf Center of Oregon, Ohio, was among the companies that helped to install a synthetic playing surface at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The Denver Broncos face the Seattle Seahawks there on Sunday night.

The referees' whistles were made by American Whistle Corporation in Columbus, which Brown says is the nation's only metal whistle manufacturer.

He says game balls were produced at an Ada factory by the Wilson Sporting Goods Co.
