Cost of temporary halt on Cincinnati streetcar may rise more after subcontractor took 2nd job
Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Thursday, January 23, 2014 7:22 AM EST
The decision to temporarily halt Cincinnati's streetcar project amid a fight over its future could further raise the costs because a subcontractor providing steel took another job during the work stoppage, potentially delaying completion of a maintenance facility.
Mayor John Cranley says he won't support more spending, so project leaders must find a solution within the current $133 million budget. Work has resumed, and they'll have to decide whether to wait for the subcontractor or hire another steel fabricator.
Delay costs are expected to come out of the $9.4 million contingency budget for the project, which is more than two years from completion.
