OHIO INTERSTATE CRASHES
State Highway Patrol continues to investigate I-90 pileup, says barriers aren't to blame

Reported: Friday, December 27, 2013 4:30 PM EST
The State Highway Patrol is focusing on speed and distances between vehicles as troopers investigate what led to a pileup this week in northeast Ohio.
Thirty-one vehicles were believed to be involved in Tuesday's pileup on eastbound lanes of Interstate 90. Dozens of vehicles collided during snow squalls east of Cleveland.
Sivak says based on drivers' statements, nothing in the patrol's review shows that construction barriers are not to blame for the pileup.
A state trooper had previously confirmed to the newspaper that the barriers gave drivers little room to maneuver to avoid crashing.
The state's transportation department says workers plan to remove the barriers this winter.
