An Ohio museum has returned two eagle-feather headdresses and other items to a Native American tribe in Wisconsin after finding them in storage.
The items were in a collection of Native American and natural-history items donated to the Athens museum in 1999 that included moccasins and stone tools among other things. The Columbus Dispatch reports the headdresses and other items apparently were bought in the 1920s from a Menominee chief.
Tribal researcher Rebecca Alegria says the pieces are highly respected by the tribe and officials are grateful to get them.
