BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich.
Four Michigan U.S. House members tell Canadian nuclear safety regulators they're concerned about plans to store radioactive waste near Lake Huron.
In a letter Wednesday, Democratic Reps. Gary Peters of Bloomfield Township, John Dingell of Dearborn, Dan Kildee of Flint and Sander Levin of Royal Oak say "the Great Lakes pump billions of dollars into the economy and support thousands of good-paying jobs."
The letter asks a review panel of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission to consider the 10,000-year risk of nuclear contamination to the lakes.
Hearings are underway this week.
