Former Coast Guard cutter Storis heads to Mexico to be stripped, sold for scrap metal

A former U.S. Coast Guard cutter is heading to a scrapyard despite efforts to turn it into a maritime musuem.
After World War II, the Storis patrolled Alaska waters and called both Juneau and Kodiak home.
It was decommissioned in 2007, and was auctioned by the government last summer.
Juneau attorney Joe Geldhof was part of a group attempting to save the Storis. The hope was to use it as a museum in either Juneau or where it was built, Toledo, Ohio.
He's disappointed they weren't able to save the ship but says the organization's remaining funds will be used to memorialize the cutter.
