CINCINNATI WHISTLEBLOWER LAWSUIT
Cincinnati hospital, radiologists accused of kickbacks in federal whistleblower lawsuit
Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Thursday, October 24, 2013 4:21 PM EDT
A whistleblower's lawsuit accuses a Cincinnati hospital and a radiology company of violating the federal kickback statute.
G. Daryl Hallman, a radiologist, filed the lawsuit after he says he was fired from the radiology company, Millennium Radiology in Cincinnati.
It accuses Mercy Health of trading patients with Millennium in exchange for waiving medical directors' fees.
Because the hospitals billed the government for patient care, Hallman's attorney says that amounts to Medicare fraud.
Mercy Health denies the allegations. Millennium didn't respond to calls for comment.
If the lawsuit is successful, Hallman could get up to 30 percent of any financial reward. The federal government would get the rest.
