Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Sunday, October 20, 2013 12:08 PM EDT
A police officer in the northeastern Ohio city of Warren shot and killed a man while responding to a report of a one-car accident.
But the Youngstown Vindicator reports that a few minutes later, he radioed for backup when another car showed up with two people inside, one of them with a gun.
Warren police Chief Eric Merkel says he has no information about whether one of the men pointed a gun at the officer before shots were fired.
The officer, who was not hurt and whose name has not been released, is on paid leave pending an investigation of the shooting.
Merkel declined to identify the man killed.
