Ohio direct-marketing magnate's trial on campaign finance charges scheduled for June 2014
Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Friday, October 11, 2013 6:51 PM EDT
A direct-marketing magnate charged for conspiring to skirt campaign finance laws while funneling nearly $200,000 to two congressional campaigns will not stand trial until 2014.
Suarez is charged with violating campaign finance laws, obstructing justice, conspiracy counts, making false statements and witness tampering. He denies the charges.
The FBI questioned employees of Suarez Corporation Industries last year about donations to two Republicans, U.S. Rep. James Renacci (reh-NAY'-see) and state treasurer Josh Mandel (man-DEHL'), who was running for the U.S. Senate. Renacci and Mandel each returned at least $100,000 in campaign contributions.
Neither Renacci nor Mandel are mentioned in the indictment charging Suarez and a co-defendant.
