A spokesman for John Kasich says the Ohio governor and former U.S. House budget chairman has urged both sides in the partial federal government shutdown to swiftly end the stalemate.
Kasich was House budget chair during the 28-day federal government shutdown of 1995-96, amid another budget impasse between Republicans and a Democratic president, Bill Clinton.
Nichols said state agency heads told Kasich during Friday's cabinet meeting that their agencies felt few shutdown effects this week, aside from impacts on federally-funded Ohio National Guard workers.
He said Ohio laid groundwork during the automatic spending cuts known as sequestration that braces for additional federal funding cuts or limits.
