Ohio abortions rise for 1st time in more than a decade; nearly 25,500 cases reported last year

An annual state report shows slightly more abortions were logged in Ohio last year than in 2011, marking the first increase in more than a decade.
The report doesn't speculate on reasons for the latest year-to-year increase, though it notes an unusually small number of abortions were reported for January 2011. Doctors must inform the state about induced abortions through confidential reports, which are used to compile the data.
Most of the patients last year were Ohio residents. About one-third of the women were ages 20 to 24.
